Favourite Releases - October 2021

October is almost over, so I went ahead and picked my favourite releases of the month. Whether you like high-energy, deep techy sound or soulful liquid, there's something for (almost) everyone in this list.

Kublai & Minor Forms - Future Motion EP (CIA Records)

Kublai and Minor Forms team up for this EP on CIA. The first two tracks "Got Me Feeling" and "Future Motion" are on the heavier side, while "Claret" and "Motif" are two lovely liquid tracks. "Motif" has a kind of sentimentality to it, perfect for the current cold and grey days. It's been one of my absolute favourites this month. If you want more from Kublai and Minor Forms, you can also listen to their EP Promo mix right here.

Favourite track: Motif

Hyroglifics - Forlorn EP (Critical Music)

Hyroglifics is back with another EP on Kasra's Critical Music. The EP starts off with the dark, techy title track "Forlorn", followed by the rolling bassline of "If I Could". "Waiting" is a lighter, more playful tune. The EP is concluded by "Dancefloor Friendly Club Track", which is exactly what the title suggests - definitely a track that will get the dancefloor burning.

Favourite track: If I Could

Culture Shock - Rise (RAM Records)

This is probably the tune I've listened to most this month. It's Culture Shock's fifth release in the Sequel Series. I love the super catchy melody and the general drive of "Rise".

Duskee & Disrupta - Blue Moon (Shogun Audio)

If you're listening to DnB on a regular basis, you've probably seen his name before: Duskee has been putting out so much amazing music lately (I'm honestly in love with all his lyrics) and Blue Moon is no different. He teamed up with Disrupta for this super soulful number on Shogun and I think it's fantastic.

Eastcolors - Dubby (Jubei Remix) / Naked Skin (Mark System Remix) (Demand Records)

Swiss label Demand Records turns 10 this year (Happy Birthday!). They are currently celebrating with a series of 7 releases. Part 3 consists of two tunes by Russian producer Eastcolors, remixed by none other than Jubei and Mark System. Jubei's remix of "Dubby" is a dancefloor-appropriate roller with a lot of drive, while Mark System's remix of "Naked Skin" is an 8-minute-long, deep, dark journey.

Stimpy - Through This Way EP (Fokuz Recordings)

You're into soulful liquid? Then this is the EP for you! "Through This Way" is Stimpy's first release on Fokuz Recordings. Previous imprints he's worked with include Celsius, Warm Communications and Soul Deep Digital - but back to his most recent body of work: "Through This Way" is a perfect blend of soulful liquid ("This is Tony", "Soulful Baby" and "3 Words) and darker tunes ("Breakdown Service" and "Through This Way").

Favourite track: This is Tony

Phaction - Revelation Sequence / What U Need (Soul Trader Records)

Bristol-based producer Phaction has been a long-time favourite of mine. He solidifies this position with his most recent release on Soul Trader. "Revelation Sequence" is a beautiful melancholic, rolling, deep liquid tune - perfect for this time of year. "What U Need" (feat. Stormae) has a similar vibe, although with a more dancefloor-oriented energy.

Grey Code - Opal / Soosay (Metalheadz)

Grey Code delivers another exciting two-track single on Metalheadz. "Soosay" (with Euph) is a rather typical, deep Grey Code tune. "Opal" is way more experimental. I love the build up and the different sound elements which appear throughout the song.
